Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Punjab Kings in the reverse fixture in Dharamsala on Sunday, May 5 after going down to them in Chennai on Wednesday. This is an afternoon game starting from 3.30 pm IST.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming lamented his team's performance against the Kings, especially with the bat. He thought that the batters played substandard cricket that did not allow their bowlers to make a match against PBKS.
He also spoke about the injury status of Deepak Chahar and ruled him out of the next game. The bowling attack for the side needs to be reformed after the chances of playing for Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana look to be doubtful in the next game.
He was rested in the previous game due to a niggle and Tushar Deshpande was ruled out with flu. Reports further said that The Fizz is likely to play his last game of the season for CSK in Dharamsala.
With four games to go, CSK faces a must-win situation with their bowling looking like the weaker aspect of their game at this point. It will be interesting to see how they address the issue heading into the next game.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (C)
Gaikwad will open the innings for CSK. He is currently leading the Orange Cap race with 509 runs from 10 games. He scored 62 off 48 balls against PBKS in the previous game which came in a losing cause.
Ajinkya Rahane
Rahane has been asked to open with Gaikwad in the last few games. He has not been able to be as consistent as he was in IPL 2023. He scored 29 off 24 balls almost killing the game for his side in the powerplay.
Daryl Mitchell
Mitchell will slot in at three. He batted at number four in the last game as CSK tried to maintain the left-right combination. He has scored 199 runs in nine games at an average of less than 30.
Shivam Dube
Dube will slot in at four. He was undone by spin in the very first ball last game as he was out for a duck. The southpaw was recently named in India's T20 World Cup squad.
Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja might bat at five once again. He has been promoted in the batting lineup a few times this season. He scored just four in the last game and went for 22 of his three overs.
Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali will slot in at six. He is now being given a run but has not batted much in the last few games. He scored 15 off 9 in the last game and bowled two overs for 22 runs.
MS Dhoni (WK)
Dhoni will bat at his premier number seven position. In the last game, he was out for the first time in this tournament. He scored 14 off 11 balls and was run out. With CSK facing a must-win situation in the last few games, he needs to bat up the order.
Shardul Thakur
With Deepak Chahar unlikely to play, Shardul Thakur might replace him in the XI. CSK used Sameer Rizvi as the Impact player in the last game. Or else Thakur was being used as an Impact Player in the last few games. He took 1/48 in the last game.
Mustafizur Rahman
The Fizz will very possibly play his last match for CSK in the next game. He bowled as many as five wides in the last game and lacked control in the last game. Rahman has taken 14 wickets so far in the season.
Matheesha Pathirana
The Sri Lankan pacer was rested in the last game due to a niggle. He should return to the playing XI for CSK. Pathirana and The Fizz have been the key wicket-takers for CSK. Pathirana has taken 13 so far in the season.
Mukesh Choudhary / Tushar Deshpande
Deshpande was out with flu in the last game. If he is fit, he can return to the XI. Muhesk Choudhary can be the other option for CSK with his left-arm swing bowling which might be helpful in the conditions in Dharamsala.
Impact Sub- Sameer Rizvi
Given that CSK's batting came short of scoring enough runs in the last game, Sameer Rizvi might be used as the Impact sub once again. He had a hard time last game as he scored 21 off 23 balls.
