The former South African pacer Dale Steyn has made a bold prediction about the future of IPL batting records after witnessing Sunrisers Hyderabad's explosive start to the 2025 season. Dale Steyn believes that the ongoing IPL 2025 could soon see its first-ever 300-run total, and he hinted that it might happen as early as April 17.
Steyn played for Sunrisers Hyderabad as well as coached them in the IPL. The Proteas legend’s statement came after SRH put on a batting masterclass against Rajasthan Royals, amassing a staggering 286/6 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Sunrisers Hyderabad make explosive start of their IPL 2025 campaign
Ishan Kishan led the charge with a sensational unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls. His knock, decorated with 11 boundaries and six sixes, powered Sunrisers to a commanding 44-run victory over Rajasthan Royals in their season opener on Sunday (March 23) in Hyderabad.

Travis Head also played a stunning knock of 67 runs off 31 balls, as Sunrisers continued their fearless approach from last season. With this effort, SRH now holds the top three highest team totals in IPL history, further cementing their reputation as one of the most destructive batting lineups.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad fell only two runs short of breaking their own record of posting the highest-ever IPL total, and that was 287/3 against the RCB in Bengaluru last year. Their 277/3 against the Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad from last season is the third-highest total in the league’s history.
Dale Steyn predicts SRH to shatter IPL records with first 300-run total
Meanwhile, Dale Steyn has predicted that the Sunrisers Hyderabad will break their own record and set the new record of the 300-run target against Mumbai Indians in the 33rd match of the ongoing IPL 2025 on April 17.
With Sunrisers Hyderabad already pushing the boundaries of high-scoring innings, Steyn’s prediction of a 300-run total doesn’t seem far-fetched, given their firepower.

Even the former South African pacer has also hinted that he could witness his predicted historic moment at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Steyn posted on X: “Small prediction. April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.”
Small prediction.

April 17 we’ll see the first 300 in IPL.
Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.
However, a fan cheekily asked Dale Steyn if the Mumbai Indians opted to bat first against the SRH, leaving the Proteas legend in a split as he lauded the fans for making a great point.
"Unbelievable and Scary" – Pat Cummins on SRH's explosive batting show
Meanwhile, SRH captain Pat Cummins hailed his team’s explosive batting but called it scary after their dominating win over the Royals in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation, “Unbelievable. We get 280-odd, and it's scary. You know you're going to go for runs."
The SRH will next face Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025 on March 27 in Hyderabad before facing Delhi Capitals in Vishakhapatnam on March 30.
