Australian opener David Warner has confirmed that he will not be retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2022 retention announcements on November 30 Tuesday.

Warner’s confirmation implies that he will be entering the pool for the mega auction that is likely to be held at the end of December or early next year. His strained relationship with SRH was visible to the public eye as they continuously kept him out of the playing XI and even the squad in general.

Therefore, his non-retention comes as no surprise. A fan asked Warner on Instagram whether he would play for the franchise if they retained him. In response, Warner said: “They won’t, but I can’t do anything about that.

The retentions for the IPL 2022 season will be announced on Tuesday evening. Most of the franchises are expected to retain at least three players except for Punjab Kings (PBKS), which is reportedly entering the auction with zero retentions.

“Wasn’t a cricket decision that David Warner was not playing for SRH” – Brad Haddin

SRH’s assistant coach Brad Haddin had also revealed that David Warner’s exclusion from the playing XI and the squad, in general, was not a cricketing-based decision but had something to do with outside issues.

I tell you what it was not a cricket decision that he was not playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. I think the one thing you have to realise with David is that he was not out of form, he was out of match practice. They had a long break, he did not go to Bangladesh or West Indies. But he turned up in really good headspace. He was hitting the ball well, circumstances were out of our control, even the coaching staff,” Haddin had stated on the Grade Cricketers podcast.

It will be interesting to see which franchise picks up the Aussie. He recently won the Man of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup, thereby putting his detractors to bed and increasing his stocks before the mega auction.
