There is a history between Shaheen Afridi and David Warner as the duo was involved in many intense moments on the field during the matches between Pakistan and Australia.
The battle between Shaheen Afridi and David Warner was captivating, ranging from intense stares to physical confrontations.
Even during a Lahore Test, Afridi stood over Warner after delivering the ball as the duo came too close to each other, with things looking ugly until they started laughing.
However, Warner has now retired from international cricket, but his rivalry with Pakistan's pacer is still alive.
Shaheen Afridi and David Warner revive their rivalry in PSL 2025
Warner is currently leading Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2025 (PSL 2025), where Afridi is the captain of the Lahore Qalandars team. On Sunday, May 4, Warner and Shaheen were up against each other as Lahore Qalandars faced Karachi Kings in the 24th PSL 2025 clash.

After leading Karachi Kings to a four-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium, David Warner was clearly in no mood to let Shaheen Afridi off the hook. After Lahore Qalandars' captain insisted spin would dominate in the game, Warner effectively cooked Shaheen with a dose of brutal reality.
The Qalandars had gone all-in on their three-spinner strategy, with Shaheen openly hinting the pitch would turn square, but not a single ball did. Across three games, the surface remained flat, and Warner made sure Shaheen and his team paid on Sunday.
Karachi Kings' pace attack dismantles spin-heavy Lahore Qalandars
While Shaheen banked on spin domination, Warner-led Karachi Kings stuck to raw pace and backed their proven formula as he went with four pacers (Mir Hamza, Hasan Ali, Abbas Afridi, and Aamir Jamal) and one spinner in Mohammad Nabi against the Lahore Qalandars in the PSL 2025 clash.
Warner’s call proved right as Abbas Afridi finished with the impressive figures of 4/27 in three overs to help Karachi restrict Lahore to 160/8. Except for Nabi, all three other pacers also managed each wicket against the hosts.
Later, Karachi chased down the target with four wickets in hand, leaving Shaheen’s strategy looking like a complete misfire at his home ground.
I was baffled by Shaheen Afridi's comments: David Warner
At the post-match presentation ceremony, Warner was asked if he would reconsider his decision at the toss or still go ahead with his pace-heavy formula, especially since the home team had three spinners in their playing XI, and the former Australian stuck to his decision and said "no."
David Warner said, “I think Shaheen said it was going to turn, but not one ball has turned in the three games here, so I was baffled by those comments, but for us, he's going to back himself, and that's the way that our team is positioned at the moment.”
