Delhi Capitals (DC) headed into the IPL 2024 auction with a remaining purse of 28.95 crore looking to fill nine slots including four overseas slots. Like RCB, and Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals are yet to win an IPL title in all these years.
The franchise retained 16 players including overseas names like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Notrje. They released 11 players including names like Mustafizur Rahman, Rovman Powell, Rilee Rossouw, and the Indian batter Manish Pandey. Despite his failures last season, Prithvi Shaw was retained by the franchise.
DC skipper Rishabh Pant is expected to make a comeback in the IPL 2024. He missed out on playing IPL 2023 after surviving a near-fatal accident. He is still recovering and is expected to be fit for the next IPL season. In his absence, David Warner led the side and they finished ninth on the points table.
DC needed Indian bowlers heading into the auction. Ishant Sharma. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel were the only experienced bowlers in the DC side. They have a good group of domestic talent and needed to cover up for their inexperience by roping in quality capped players.

Delhi have their spin attack sorted with Kuldeep, Axar, and Lalit Yadav. They needed experienced Indian pacers heading into the auction and they did manage to get what they needed in the end. Nortje’s availability still looms large as he has not played any international cricket since missing out from the World Cup. Lungi Ngidi can replace him in the XI if needed.
Delhi lost nine out of the 14 league games last season ending one of their most inconsistent seasons in the IPL. The franchise did make it to the playoffs twice since 2018 playing the final in IPL 2020 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.
What impact does the return of Rishabh Pant have on the franchise will be an interesting observation. He himself will be returning to competitive cricket after a long time and hence it will not be easy for him to make an impact straightaway.
