The five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians have had a disappointing start to the 2023 season, losing their first two games. The club has underperformed despite having a star-studded lineup that includes players like Rohit Sharma, Tim David, and Archer.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh agreed, pointing out that the team’s batting has been disappointing in both of their games. He also said that the squad needs to improve its fielding and bowling.

“It didn’t seem that a five-time champion team would play this sort of cricket”- Harbhajan Singh
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh commented on the Mumbai Indians’ disappointing start to the 2023 IPL season. Singh stated to Star Sports following Chennai’s overwhelming victory against their arch-rivals that MI had not been at their best thus far.
Harbhajan Singh also stated that Mumbai’s performance fell far short of what fans have grown to expect from the franchise, despite its strong track record in the competition.
“We say this team’s bowling is their weakness but the batting has actually disappointed if we analyze it properly. The batters will have to score runs, then only your bowlers will come into the game. They are not playing freely.
“A big team is one which plays freely. It didn’t seem that a five-time champion team would play this sort of cricket. They have big names in batting but they have disappointed in both the matches,” Harbhajan Singh said.
