Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin apologized to former Zimbabwe cricketer Heath Streak for mourning over his fake death rumors. He admitted that his tweet came from utter disbelief but he’s glad that the legendary player is doing fine.
The entire cricketing fraternity got fooled and expressed their disbelief after the news came out on Wednesday (23rd August) that former Zimbabwe cricketer Heath Streak is no more. His former teammate Henry Olonga informed about the development in an X post.
Olongo’s post saw almost every current and former cricketer Sean Williams, Scott Styris, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, and Ravichandran Ashwin express their condolence over his sad demise. The Indian off-spinner posted a heartfelt message related to his death.
The dramatic turn of events then took place as Olonga deleted that post and later confirmed that he had chatted with Heath Streak, revealing that he was doing well and very much alive. This created havoc as even the Zimbabwe cricketer lashed out at his fake death news.
However, Ravichandran Ashwin has now apologized for the mistake and admitted that he was carried away by Henry Olonga’s tweet. Taking to his X account, he explained:
“I saw Henry Olonga’s tweet and mourned it too. It came from a place of utter disbelief and sadness. Deleted that tweet but glad to know that you are doing fine. @HeathStreak3 Take care and apologies for the inaccurate tweet from my side.”
