Delhi's Stadium To Undergo Major Renovation Ahead Of ICC World Cup 2023: Reports

The Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi will undergo a major revamp ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November 2023. The 10-team event will kick off from October 5 and the final will be played on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

The Arun Jaitley stadium is one of the 12 venues shortlisted for the World Cup. Along with Ahmedabad, the other host cities include Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune, Guwahati and Trivandrum.

As per reports in Indian Express, The Delhi Stadium renovation will be worth Rs 20 to 25 crore, for the five matches it hosts during the ODI World Cup in October-November.

The venue coped with severe criticism due to its unhygienic bathrooms on the stadium premises. Delhi was chosen as one of the five venues that was selected for a major revamp ahead of the World Cup.

Rajan Manchanda, joint secretary at Delhi and District Cricket Association said their focus would be on making the fan experience pleasant during the World Cup.

Arun Jaitley Stadium To Host Five World Cup Games

“We thank the BCCI for awarding us five games. We need to improve the stadium infrastructure to make it a pleasant experience for the fans and will be focussed on that ahead of the mega event”.

“We have planned a substantial upgrade in the facilities which will include changing of spectator seats, renovated washrooms, paint work and change in our ticketing software,” Manchanda told PTI.

The Arun Jaitley stadium hosts 35000 spectators and Manchanda informed that DDCA will replace around 10,000 seats besides changing the 15-year-old turnstiles to enter the venue.

“We need to provide clean washrooms and hygienic food and water at a reasonable price to our fans. The strength of the housekeeping staff will also be increased. We plan to complete all the work by September 15,” added Manchanda.

The DDCA secretary also informed that teams from BCCI and ICC will conduct a recce of the venue, which will also include the pitch and outfield, in the third week of July.

Delhi will host five World Cup games including the India vs Afghanistan game on October 11.
