Just before the start of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League, former India spin wizard R Ashwin joked that he was not invited to Kuldeep Yadav’s grand wedding or reception, which took place after the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He also mentioned that in the future, he might not be invited either, as such events are usually for close friends and family.
Kuldeep Yadav and R Ashwin have been part of the India national cricket team for a long time. Ashwin, as one of the senior players, consistently picked key wickets with his experience, while the Chinaman bowler used his economical spells in the middle overs to stop the flow of runs.
However, R Ashwin retired last year after playing his final season for the Chennai Super Kings. It will be interesting to see how Kuldeep impresses the selectors with his orthodox bowling, especially after a brilliant performance last season for the Delhi Capitals, where he finished as the highest wicket-taker from his side.
Big Names Turn Up for Kuldeep’s Wedding
Kuldeep tied the knot with his long-time partner, Vanshika Singh, in a grand wedding at Mussoorie on March 14, just one week after India’s win over New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The wedding was attended by top celebrities as well as national and international cricketers. One notable attendee seen in the video was Yuzvendra Chahal, who is often considered one of Kuldeep’s close friends.
Along with Chahal, several Indian players were also seen, such as Tilak Verma and Rinku Singh. Following the wedding, a massive reception was also held, attended by several politicians and former cricketers, including Shikhar Dhawan, Ravindra Jadeja, Indian Coach Gautam Gambhir, and others.
What R Ashwin Said
During a conversation on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat, when he was asked why he didn’t attend Kuldeep Yadav’s wedding or reception, he jokingly said, "Shadi ke liye toh bulaya nahi" – meaning, “He didn’t invite me to his wedding.” Going further, the legendary spinner R Ashwin backed Kuldeep for the upcoming IPL season, despite him warming the bench along with Mohammed Siraj in the concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup:
"Last year, the way he bowled in the IPL, it was almost as if he tied the ball on a rope. He bowled wherever he wanted. He had confidence and rhythm. Recently, he hasn’t played much for India. Sometimes he played and did well; in other games, he struggled a bit. I want to see his mindset and rhythm. But knowing Kuldeep, he will get into rhythm and be a very crucial point of difference for Delhi."
R Ashwin also talked about Axar Patel’s captaincy
After an impressive performance as the captain for Delhi Capitals last year, Axar Patel is all set to continue in the 2026 edition. Last year, under his leadership, Delhi won four back-to-back matches. However, they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Pointing this out, R Ashwin said: "It is very early to judge Axar as a captain. Last year, I think it was a bit tough. There was an injury as well. They lost a game against Mumbai, which they should have won. That game changed because of a run-out and revived Mumbai's campaign. Axar is a calm personality. He doesn’t take much tension. I can’t say much about him as a captain, but if you put too much pressure on him, you won’t get the natural flair that Axar brings to the dressing room. According to me, he is in a very good space in his life – as a batter, as a bowler, in everything."
Delhi will play their first match of the season against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Sports Stadium.
