Dinesh Karthik, the former Indian wicket-keeper batsman, has slammed the English legend Nasser Hussain for laughing at Shubman Gill's agitation due to the 90-second delay from English batters.

The incident that occurred during the third Test at Lord's earned Shubman Gill widespread criticism, even from several former players of his nation. As a result of this, to end all controversies once and for all, the Indian captain mentioned his actual reason for the outburst.

On the eve of the fourth Test at Manchester, Shubman Gill made it clear that he was not irked due to the English batters wasting time in the middle, but due to their '90-second late entry' in the field.

“Yes, most of the teams use this tactic. Even if we were in a position, we would’ve also liked to play fewer overs, but there’s a manner to do it.” But to be able to come 90 seconds late on the crease is not something that I would think comes in the spirit of the game,” Gill had mentioned, criticizing English openers for ruining the spirit of the game.

Dinesh Karthik slams Nasser Hussain for a blunt remark

When the first day's play ended in Manchester, former English skipper Nasser Hussain brought up the Shubman Gill fiasco, pointing at what Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur did at the end of Day 1's play at Old Trafford.

The light faded away during the ending sessions of play, as the floodlights had to be turned on, and playing with the second new ball under the light would have drawn chances for another Indian lower-order collapse; hence, Jadeja smartly urged the umpire to consider calling stumps.

However, Hussain took this as a reference and said Gill's actions and his statement 'made him laugh' as time wasting is any team's natural strategy towards the end of a day's play.

However, a smashing reply awaited him from Dinesh Karthik, his fellow commentator, who highlighted that Gill was irked by the delay to arrive on the crease and not by the on-field time wasting from the English openers.

Entire exchange between DK and Nasser Hussain

"The umpires were concerned about the light, I think, in the last over. I haven't seen any light metres out there," said the former England skipper.

"I think that's quite clever, that's fine, to just go and put that small little seed in the umpire's mind. Is it okay to, like, especially with the new ball around the corner, and we've seen a couple of collapses for India as well. And that's cheeky. Not a bad idea," Dinesh Karthik was heard praising Indian batter Jadeja's tactics on Day 1.

"That's what made me laugh about Shubham Gill's press conference, really, about England not being in the spirit of the game by delaying things, and England did delay it," Nasser Hussain mocks Gill.

"Day three, that one over, it was ridiculous, but every side does it, and India will do it tonight. Why would they want extra overs of Jofra Archer under the lights? Who would?"

"Difference being, I don't think India can take 90 seconds not wanting to bat, or rather not wanting to come down to bat. I think that's the problem that Shubham Gill said he had. It was just the fact that they came late to take the strike, that he had a problem with," responded Karthik immediately

Rishabh Pant ruled out of the England series with a foot injury

Rishabh Pant has been at the centre of injury setbacks for India in the ongoing series. The wicket-keeper did not keep wickets throughout most of the first innings and the entire second innings due to a blow to his finger.

Now, having suffered a major foot injury after a missed reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, he has been ruled out of the remainder of the India vs England series. Dhruv Jurel will act as his deputy for the game and will be replaced by Ishan Kishan for the final Test at The Oval.
