Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. The Ajit Agarkar-led national selection panel announced India’s 15-member squad for the tournament on Tuesday (September 5).

As expected there were no big surprises in the squad. Ajit Agarkar had already made it clear that the squad for the World Cup would not have much difference than the Asia Cup squad. And the 15 players picked for the World Cup are a part of the India squad for the ongoing Asia Cup.

Two players who have missed out on the World Cup despite being named in the Asia Cup squad are Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna. Sanju Samson, who was named as a traveling reserve in the Asia Cup squad, has also failed to make the cut. The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin also failed to find a place in the World Cup squad.

Rohit Sharma on India-Pakistan contest:

After the squad was announced by Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector and captain Rohit Sharma interacted with the media. And one of the questions made Rohit Sharma visibly frustrated. One of the journalists asked the India captain about the hype surrounding the team’s performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup last week.

India’s top-order failed to do well against Pakistan’s pacers and the players have been facing the heat for the same. Rohit Sharma, however, was not at all impressed with the question and made his feelings very clear. Expressing his disappointment over the question, Rohit Sharma said:

“How many times has I said that? Our job is not to worry about what’s happening outside. Our boys have seen all that. Don’t ask me such questions when we are playing world cup. We are professionals and this isn’t our job.”

Incidentally, India’s next game in the Asia Cup is also against Pakistan. The Men in Blue will lock horns against the Men in Green in their first Super 4 clash on Sunday (September 4).
