Duleep Trophy 2023: “I Don’t Understand Selection Committee These Days," Dinesh Karthik Lashes Out At Selectors For Excluding Baba Indrajith From South Zone's Squad For Duleep Trophy

Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik lashed out at the selectors for the omission of Baba Indrajith from the south zone’s squad in the Duleep Trophy. He said that he doesn’t understand the selecton committee’s decision and questioned his snub.

The Duleep Trophy is set to return as teams from six zones will take part in the tournament. The domestic tournament will take place from June 28th to July 16th. The squads for the domestic tournament have been announced and coming to South Zone, quite a few players were missing.

The South Zone Associations selected a 15-man squad and Hanuma Vihari has been named as the skipper of the team. The team has some quality names in the side, having the likes of Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Ricky Bhui, Sai Sudharshan, Washington Sundar, R Samarth, Tilak Varma and others.

But two key players that were missing from the squad were Baba Indrajith along with all-rounder Vijay Shankar. The two have been the prolific run-getters in the domestic circuit and their snub was something that didn’t go well with many.

Talking about Baba Indrajith, he has been amongst the best batters to have played FC cricket in India. The right-hander has been scoring runs consistently as he has scored 4511 runs in 66 matches at a staggering average of 51.85. He also has smashed 14 hundreds and 23 half-centuries.

Baba Indrajith’s omission from the squad didn’t go well with Dinesh Karthik, who questioned selectors for his snub. Taking to his Twitter account, he remarked:

“I don’t understand the selection committee these days. Baba Indrajith plays for Rest of India against MP in the first week of March 2023. There has been no first-class matches post that, but he doesn’t feature for South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. Can someone tell me why?”
