The last month or so has been nothing less than a rollercoaster ride for Ishan Kishan. Not very long ago, the wicketkeeper-batsman was an indispensable part of India’s limited-overs team and also made his Test debut during the West Indies tour last year.
However, his international career is completely off track at the moment as he has fallen out of favor with the Indian team management as well as the BCCI. It all started in South Africa when he decided to take a break from the game just ahead of the Test series. After being released from the squad, he was reportedly seen partying in Dubai before appearing on a popular quiz show on TV.
According to reports, it did not go down well with the selectors. While he was expected to be a part of India’s squad for the T20I series against Afghanistan last month, the selectors decided otherwise. He was also ignored for the ongoing Test series against England as the selectors handed a maiden call-up to uncapped Dhruv Jurel. Later, India head coach Rahul Dravid said that Ishan Kishan will have to play domestic cricket to become eligible for selection.

However, Ishan Kishan ignored Dravid’s advice as well as BCCI’s directive to play domestic cricket. Earlier this week, the BCCI came down hard on him as well as Shreyas Iyer and decided against handing them central contracts. The Jharkhand star held a Grade C ( ₹1 crore) contract.
While questions are being raised on Ishan Kishan’s attitude and commitment, former West Indies allrounder Dwayne Bravo is confident that the southpaw is one of the most gifted players around. Bravo recently met Ishan Kishan as well as Nicholas Pooran and posted a photo of the meeting on Instagram with the caption: “Two of the most gifted players around @nicholaspooran and Ishan.”

Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan recently returned to action in the ongoing DY Patil T20 Cup in Mumbai. He will be seen in action in IPL 2024 later this month. He is set to ply his trade for Mumbai Indians in the competition. IPL 2024 is scheduled to get underway on March 22.
