England National Cricket Team suffered a major injury scare in the 13th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as the 29-year-old left-arm pacer Reece Topley walked off the field after hurting his right knee.
The pacer hurt his knee while attempting to save a boundary in the 16th over of the first innings. On the second ball of the over, express pacer Mark Wood bowled a 148.6kph delivery to Rahmanullah Gurbaz down the leg-side and the batter gloved it. The ball raced toward fine leg and Reece Topley ran to his right to put in a dive with an attempt to save the boundary.
He was unable to save four runs and to make things worse the pacer landed awkwardly and hurt his right knee. After getting back to his feet, Reece Topley was seen limping while holding his right knee and he immediately called for medical attention.

Topley had bowled magnificently well before hurting his knee as in his first 5 overs he gave away just 21 runs and bowled one maiden over as well.
Reece Topley Returns On The Field
After suffering the knee issue, Reece Topley walked off the field. He went to the dressing room and got some treatment from the physio. The pacer was replaced by sub-fielder David Willey for the time being.
However, in a good piece of news for England National Cricket Team the left-arm quick later returned to the field. Reece Topley is considered to be a highly injury-prone cricketer and him suffering any serious injury would have been a massive blow to the defending champions, who are already without the services of star pacer Jofra Archer.
Talking about the match, England won the toss and elected to bowl first against Afghanistan. The English bowlers were taken to the cleaners by explosive opening batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
However, after being smashed all over the park in the initial half of the innings, the England bowlers made a terrific comeback in the match and reduced them from 114/0 to 190/6 very quickly.
