ENG vs NZ: Didn't Even Know If That Was Allowed - Jack Leach On Henry Nicholls' Freak Dismissal

England spinner Jack Leach was unaware whether Henry Nicholls’ dismissal was legit during the first day’s play of the third and final Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley.
Nicholls smashed a delivery straight down the ground but right towards Daryl Mitchell at the non-striker’s end. He tried to get out of the way but ended up middling the ball, which lobbed towards Alex Lees at mid-off.
“It was unbelievable, I’ve never seen anything like it. I didn’t even know if that was allowed, but I’ll take any wicket I can get. You get enough that don’t go your way. It was very unlucky for Nicholls but very lucky for me,” Leach told reporters after the day’s play.
Leach said he was unhappy with the fashion in which he landed the dismissals.
“It’s a silly game, isn’t it? That’s what it made me think, it’s a stupid game we play. I like it because it says two wickets up on the board but I don’t like the dismissal,” he added.
“Unfortunately for Henry Nicholls, it’s his demise” – Luke Ronchi
The Kiwi batting coach Luke Ronchi said such dismissals are part of the game and occur rarely. He revealed the team sympathized with the left-handed batter after the freaky incident.
“I like those sort of things that happen, you can always say you were there at the time and if you take those factors out of the game it could make things pretty boring. Unfortunately for Henry, it’s his demise. We gave him a bit of space afterwards,” Ronchi said.
At the end of Day 1, New Zealand were at 225/5 with Mitchell and Tom Blundell at the crease.
