England squad for third Test against West Indies announced

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Monday, July 22, an unchanged squad for the third and final Test of the ongoing home series between England and the West Indies.

The squad was announced after the England Cricket Team moved to the sixth spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table with a massive win over the West Indies in the second Test on July 21.

The final Test of the series will be played on July 26 at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, where England will look to complete a clean sweep against the West Indies Cricket Team.

Notably, the Ben Stokes-led England Cricket Team has already clinched the Test series, having won the first two matches of the home series against the West Indies. England dominated the opening Test at Lord’s, winning by an innings and 114 runs.

Then, the hosts continued their commanding performance at Trent Bridge, where they crushed the West Indies by a substantial margin of 241 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match Test series.

Meanwhile, the 14-member squad for the final Test remains unchanged from the second Test, reflecting the England selectors' confidence in the team going forward. Ben Stokes, the Durham all-rounder and captain, will lead the side, featuring experienced players and emerging talents.

The squad has big names like Joe Root, who has been the backbone of England's batting lineup. Then, Harry Brook, who is known for his aggressive batting style, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Dan Lawrence in the batting department for the Edgbaston Test.

In the bowling department, Chris Woakes and Mark Wood will bring experience and pace to the table and lead the pace attack, while young talents like Gus Atkinson and Dillon Pennington will offer promising support to their seniors in the final Test against the West Indies.

Matthew Potts and Shoaib Bashir completed the squad, ensuring a well-balanced bowling attack, as England is aiming to complete a clean sweep in the ongoing three-match Test series at home against the West Indies to continue their dominance in the format.

Great chance for England to qualify for the WTC 2023-25 Final

Speaking about England’s chances to make it to the final of the WTC 2023-25, they have 31.25 percent points with five wins, six losses, and a draw after 12 matches, and now they are currently sitting behind India, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan in the standings.

On the other hand, the West Indies have 22.22 percent points with one win, four losses, and a draw in six matches so far and are in the ninth spot in the WTC 2023-25 points table.

Now, England will have to treat each and every game as a final to have any chances to qualify for the WTC 2023-25 final, as they have now ten more games to stack their claims for the title clash.
