Veteran Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has been signed up by Essex for its final three matches of the LV= Insurance County Championship 2023. Umesh has played 57 Test matches, 75 One-Day Internationals, and nine T20Is. He last played for India in the WTC 2023 final against Australia.

Umesh is out of India’s white-ball picture for the last four to five years. He now plays Test match cricket and in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders. The pacer has picked up 288 international wickets so far.

He will be eligible for selection in home matches against Middlesex and Hampshire, as well as the end-of-season trip to Northamptonshire. The Indian pacer shared his thoughts on being signed up by Essex.

Really Pleased To Join Essex: Umesh Yadav

“I am really pleased to join Essex and make what I hope will be some valuable contributions to the team’s success this year. I enjoyed playing in England with Middlesex last season, and it will be good to return and test myself in those conditions again, especially in the midst of a title race” said Umesh.

Essex coach Anthony McGrath shared his thoughts on signing up the Indian pacer. He said how Umesh’s experience can be a valuable addition to the side.

“He is vastly experienced and has taken wickets at the top levels of the game for more than a decade now, so as well as contributing during our run-in, we hope he can pass on some of his wisdom to our young players too,” McGrath said.

Umesh will play Essex’s next home match at The Cloud County Ground, taking place on Monday 04 September against Middlesex. The veteran Indian pacer would like to make the most of the opportunity in England in a bid to make his white-ball comeback.
