Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has gone after the individuals who feel that India won the 2011 World Cup because of MS Dhoni alone. Harbhajan, who was important for India’s triumphant World Cup crusade in 2011 at home, feels that it’s unjustifiable to credit Dhoni alone for India’s noteworthy World Cup win and referenced that each of the 11 players deserves credit for the team’s six-wicket-win upon Sri Lanka in the final.

Everything started when Harbhajan Singh’s former India teammate Mohammad Kaif, before the start of the IPL 2022 match between Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, brought up that Shreyas Iyer ‘drove the Capitals to the last’ in IPL 2020.

“Iyer was the captain of Delhi Capitals (in 2020), took the team to the final. He doesn’t show much emotion although in his heart he would have wanted to win against his previous team,” Kaif had said during the Byju’s Cricket Live Show.

Were Others Playing “Gulli-Danda”: Harbhajan Singh On Shreyas Iyer Taking DC To IPL 2020 Final

Taking a little special case for it, a noticeably annoyed Harbhajan answered saying: “I don’t understand one thing. Shreyas Iyer took the team to the final? Were the rest of the players playing gulli-danda?” before the discussion took a lighter turn. It is there that Harbhajan Singh brought up the 2011 World Cup.

In the final against Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Dhoni played the innings of his life as his knock of 91, including the renowned six off Nuwan Kulasekara, assisted India in pursuing an objective of 275. In that innings, Gautam Gambhir had top-scored with 97 and it was his innings that assisted India with recuperating from early harm of 31/2.

Be that as it may, Dhoni was named the Player of the Match, and from that point onward, the Gambhir versus Dhoni discussions have been seething.

When 7-8 Players Play Well, Only Then Will Your Team Progress: Harbhajan Singh On Why Crediting One Player For Win Is Wrong

“When Australia wins the World Cup, the headlines are: ‘Australia won the World Cup’. When India won the World Cup at that time, everyone said, ‘MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye thhe? (Were the remaining 10 players there to have milkshake?).

What did the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do? It’s a team game. When 7-8 players play well, only then will your team progress”, Harbhajan said.

Meanwhile, DC defeated KKR in that game by 44 runs. Batting first, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner provided a great start and DC went on to score 215 in their quota of 20 overs. Chasing a mammoth total, KKR was bowled out for 171 only, with Kuldeep Yadav picking up 4-35.
