Day 1 of the third IND vs ENG Test match belonged to Indian captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Sarfaraz Khan. Rohit smashed his 11th Test century and played an innings of 131 runs, on the other hand, Jadeja was unbeaten on 110 runs at the end of the day. Sarfaraz also performed on his debut and played a knock of 62 runs from 66 balls, and batted in an aggressive style.
However, the end of Sarfaraz Khan‘s innings wouldn’t have been like he would have wanted. Sarfaraz was run out by Mark Wood due to a mistake by Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja played a drive towards the off-side against James Anderson and called for a single but soon turned back after taking two steps. However, till then, Sarfaraz was very much out of his crease, and due to a bullet throw by Wood, he didn’t get time to return to the crease. India captain Rohit Sharma was also livid with Ravindra Jadeja’s act at the crease and threw his cap in the dressing room.
‘X’ user predicts Sarfaraz Khan’s unfortunate run out
Soon after the departure of Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja completed his fourth Test ton and performed his iconic sword celebration. However, an ‘X’ user had predicted the incident before it happened. He wrote, “Jadeja is gonna get sarfraz run out and then do the sword celebration.”

Ravindra Jadeja was playing more safely as he reached into the 90s due to which there would have been a lack of communication between the two batsmen.
The start of the Day 1 wasn’t as the hosts would have liked. India were reduced to 33/3 at one stage in the early hours of the day with top-order batsmen such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rajat Patidar being dismissed cheaply. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja brought the innings back on track and added 204 runs from 329 balls for the fourth wicket.
Rohit Sharma became the oldest Indian captain to smash a century in Test cricket. Before the match, Rohit was not able to convert his starts into big scores and was dismissed before completing a half-century for low scores. However, Sharma played one of the best innings of his career when the Indian team needed it the most.
On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja also followed Rohit Sharma’s footsteps and helped him reach the three-figure mark and also put off the pressure on him.
The Indian team is in a commanding position in the 3rd Test match on Day 1. India would aim to put up a huge first-innings total on the board and put England under the pump.
However, England have also played really well in the series so far and have come out very effectively whenever they have been put under pressure. The visitors are expected to come back on Day 2 and will try to wrap up India’s first innings as early as possible.
