Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim insisted that Rohit Sharma and co. will look to try a different approach in the upcoming white-ball series against the visiting West Indies side.

Ahead of the series, India was dealt a huge blow as seven members of the home party tested positive for covid-19. Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Navdeep Saini are among the bowlers who tested positive.

Mayank Agarwal has been called up to the side and it was also reported that Ishan Kishan was notified as well. Kishan can replace Dhawan at the top and open with Rohit, a familiar sight for Mumbai Indians fans.

You don’t have options left as well as your squad has been severely depleted because of the players who have gotten infected. Because of that, I feel we will see a new approach,” Karim mentioned to India News.

Karim also opined that Kishan will have to open as he is a naturally aggressive player and can make the most of the powerplay. Since India generally slows down in the middle-overs, an explosive batter at the top could do wonders.

This will be the right combination as well because if Ishan Kishan opens with Rohit Sharma, the sort of character Ishan has, his strike rate is always high, which means he can take advantage of the powerplay,” Karim added.

The first game is scheduled to be played on February 6. However, the covid outbreak might force the BCCI to reschedule the ODI.
