Former Indian cricketers MSK Prasad and Kiran more were shocked by Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as India’s Test captain. He announced the same a day after his side lost the Test series against South Africa. Kohli had voluntarily quit T20I captaincy while the truth behind him being asked to step down as ODI captain is still under wraps.
With potentially no one to replace him, Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as Test captain comes as a big surprise for not only the Indian cricket fraternity but for the fans as well. Kohli won 40 out of the 68 Tests he led for India.
MSK Prasad saw Kohli from close quarters while being the Chairman of Selectors for a good length of time. He said that he was shocked by Kohli’s decision to resign as India’s Test captain.
“I am still not able to digest the fact that he has stepped down from Test captaincy. Am still searching for the reasons for him stepping down as Test captain. I felt that he still has a lot to offer as a captain and as a player in Tests,” Prasad told news18.com from Hyderabad.
The Way He Left Is A Bit Sad: Kiran More On Virat Kohli
“The way he has left is a bit sad. the way people have treated him, and I am not talking of the BCCI, and criticised him was not fair. He has played a lot of cricket, he has done well for India. The way he played any form of cricket, he had that quality. He always showed the character that he wanted to win. Let’s not forget he is a World Cup winner (2011). He has got 70 international hundreds and is a special player. I am disappointed with the way people were talking about him and the way his captaincy was criticised” More said to News18.
Other former Indian cricketers Madan Lal and Chandrakant Pandit are still finding it tough to believe that Kohli is not the Indian captain anymore. As per recent reports, either Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul is likely to replace him as the next Test skipper.
