Former India left-arm spinner Maninder Singh thinks Kuldeep Yadav’s recent outstanding performances have been a tremendous plus, and if the left-arm wrist-spinner keeps up his steady play, he may make India’s ODI World Cup selection next year.

Kuldeep Yadav’s comeback performance in IPL 2022, in which he bowled more quickly and confidently while scooping up 21 wickets for Delhi Capitals, was a very encouraging sight.

During India’s T20I series against South Africa in June, many people anticipated that his illustrious streak would continue. But due to a hand injury, he was unable to play in the series, go to Ireland and England, or the ODIs against the West Indies. In the fifth T20I match against the West Indies in Lauderhill, he finally got his chance, capturing three wickets in an outstanding bowling display in which spinners claimed all 10 wickets.

Kuldeep needs to perform consistently: Maninder Singh

Maninder Singh, a former left-arm spinner for India, thinks Kuldeep’s recent outstanding performances have been a significant plus.

“Kuldeep Yadav’s performance was beginning to deteriorate. However, the fact he made a comeback this year while playing for Delhi Capitals was evidence that he had put in a lot of effort.

“When a player returns to playing cricket, it is clear from their body language and on-field expressions that they have worked hard. He displayed his excellent play for Delhi Capitals and the resulting confidence in the most recent international cricket encounter (fifth T20I against West Indies),” Maninder Singh Said.

“I still believe that he must perform consistently; if he does so on the field consistently, he will be capable of participating in the ODI World Cup, which will take place in India in 2023.”

“He provides a distinct variety because he is a left-arm chinaman (wrist-spinner) and has a penchant for taking wickets, which is crucial in the middle overs to slow the opposition’s run rate,” Maninder Singh added.

Yadav was named to India’s squad for a limited overs tour to the West Indies in June 2017. On June 23, 2017, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut for India against the West Indies.
