From Rachin Ravindra To Yashasvi Jaiswal, ICC Releases Emerging Player Of The Year 2023 Nominees

Just like every year, the cricket governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the nominees for the Emerging Player Of the Year 2023. The nominees consist of the names of New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, South African pacer Gerald Coetzee, Sri Lanka fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka, and Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

At one end, Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Coetzee, and Dilshan Madushanka were part of the 2023 ODI World Cup and showcased brilliant performances. Yashasvi Jaiswal made his international debut in the year 2023 and scored a ton in his first Test.

Brief look at all the candidates for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year 2023

Rachin Ravindra

New Zealand opener Rachin Ravindra hit a total of 820 runs in his ODI career whereas he has also picked up 18 wickets at an economy of 6.02. Ravindra was among the top run scorers in the 2023 ODI World Cup scored 578 runs from 10 matches and slammed three centuries at a strike rate of 106.44. Rachin Ravindra has played 18 T20I and three Tests and has scored 145 and 73 runs respectively.

Rachin Ravindra was the fourth-highest run scorer of the tournament and showcased brilliant batting skills in the first games in the absence of Kane Williamson. Rachin Ravindra deserves a place in the ICC Emerging Player of the Year nominees.

Gerald Coetzee

South Africa’s Gerald Coetzee was called up as a replacement for Anrich Nortje in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the young lad didn’t disappoint and ended the tournament by picking up 20 wickets from 8 matches at an economy rate of 6.23.

Gerald Coetzee has picked up 31 ODI wickets till now followed by 10 wickets in the Test format. Coetzee has also picked 6 T20I wickets and is one of the clear contenders for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year.

Dilshan Madushanka

Dilshan Madushanka was Sri Lanka’s lead pacer in the year 2023 and till now has picked up 31 ODI wickets in his 15-match old 50-over career. Madushanka has also plucked 12 wickets in the T20I format but is yet to pick up a wicket in the Test format, playing just 1 Test.

Dilshan Madushanka came in as a replacement for Dushmantha Chameera in the 2023 ODI World Cup and plucked the opportunity really well. The left-arm pace bowler picked up 21 wickets from nine matches and became the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He also picked up a fifer against hosts India and grabbed the attention of many cricketing greats. He is the third nominee for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

There is also a place for young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who slammed a ton against West Indies in his debut Test match. Since then Jaiswal has played four Test matches and has hit 288 runs at an average of 48.00. Jaiswal has also played hit 430 runs in the T20I format at an average of 33.07.

Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to bat with an aggressive intent and grabbed a place in the Indian team with his impressive performance in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket. Jaiswal deserves a place in the ICC Emerging Player of the Year nominees.
