Rajasthan Royals, who finished third in IPL 2024 lost the second qualifier to Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was SRH and KKR who played the final in the end and KKR won their third IPL title.
Rajasthan Royals had a tournament of two halves in IPL 2024. They won seven out of their first eight games as they dominated all the teams. However, in the second half, they lost four games on the trot to make the knockouts and lost the qualifier two to SRH.
As per reports, the RR management might also see some changes made to them. The Royals have been very consistent since 2022 They made the final of that IPL edition, finished fifth in 2023, and finished third in 2024.
Sanju Samson as captain and Kumar Sangakkara as head coach have worked towards the common goal of retaining much of the core of the squad across the last three seasons. However, with the IPL governing council set to make some changes to the retention rules, every franchise including the Rajasthan Royals is already looking to retain their best options.
The number of retentions was a hugely debated topic at the meeting between the BCCI and the franchise owners of the ten teams SRH and KKR have strongly opposed it saying that it breaks the core that is built by the franchise over time.
With several changes in the IPL 2025 mega auction expected, here is a look at three possible overseas releases by Rajasthan Royals.
Overseas Players Rajasthan Royals (RR) Will Release Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Donovan Ferreira
The South African wicketkeeper-batsman played two games for the Royals last season. He has largely been a part of the reserves with Royals giving a consistent run to their four overseas players.
They played with three overseas players when they fielded first and used Jos Buttler as the fourth option when they chased. They might seek a better keeper-batter option on the next mega auction.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore
The England batsman can be another one who can be released by the franchise. He has also played just a handful of games for the franchise and has been part of the reserves. The Royals maintained a consistent top six with Caddmore not getting an opportunity to break into it.
He played the last few games this season with England recalling their skipper Jos Buttler for the T20I series against Pakistan just ahead of the T20 World Cup. The right-hander failed to break into the team's T20 World Cup squad as well.
Nandre Burger / Rovman Powell
Depending on the balance of the side, either Powell or Burger can be the third release for Rajasthan Royals. Burger had a good stint with the Royals picking up seven wickets in six games for the franchise. He can be a good prospect for the franchise if the franchise decides to give him the longer rope.
Roman Powell, on the other hand, is the T20I skipper of West Indies. He has made a reputation of being a big-hitter and is consistent at that as well. However, he has yet to reflect that consistency for the Rajasthan Royals.
