Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League. The Men-in-Yellow has won five titles and is the joint-most successful team with Mumbai Indians. They have also reached the playoffs for the most number of times.
However, Ruturaj Gaikwad & Co. failed to reach the playoffs last season after losing their last league game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Call it the absence of MS Dhoni as captain or multiple injuries, CSK's ouster from playoffs was a complete shocker for all.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, CSK might make some changes to their squad. Notably, Mustafizur Rahman moving out of the side and key members being injured were some crucial reasons for CSK's poor show during the end.
Hence, CSK needs some big decisions this time as IPL 2025 is a mega auction. Also, will they retain MS Dhoni for such a big price will be a crucial thing to know? Below we glance at 3 players who can retire from T20 cricket if not retained by CSK.

3. MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is the first player on this list. See, there are just two cases for Dhoni. Either CSK will retain him or he will retire from Indian Premier League.
There is no other option. Dhoni will not move to any other side. Also, the right-handed batsman needs to understand that due to his expensive fees, CSK loses some big names in their squad.

2. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane is the next member on this list. The right-handed batsman has lost his place in the Test squad. A few years ago, he was the Test specialist batsman for India. Rahane played crucial roles in the playoffs in IPL 2023 and everyone lauded Dhoni for giving him opportunities.
However, he was quite impressive last season, hitting just 242 runs in 13 games. If CSK did not pick him, no other team is likely to pick him and this can force him to pull the curtains down on his T20I career and rather focus on Tests.

1. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian all-rounder has been part of CSK for a long time and is a poster boy for the team. Jadeja played a key role in leading CSK to the title in IPL 2023 by hitting a six and a four on the final two balls.
He is a key member of the side with his ability to bowl, bat, and field. He will be one of the most crucial members of Chennai. If the franchise does not retain him, he might retire from T20 cricket as he has already retired from T20Is.
