Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa is excited for a new IPL season where he will ply trade for his sixth IPL franchise dating back to 2008. Uthappa will be seen in yellow as he has been traded to Chennai Super Kings (CSk0 from Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2021.
The right-hander had an insipid season last year for the Royals; he couldn’t hit a single fifty in 12 innings and batted with a strike rate of 119.51. Therefore, the inaugural champions traded him away to CSK.
Robin Uthappa posted a video on his Instagram to greet the CSK fans and thank the franchise for welcoming him into the squad and showing faith.
“Vanakkam Chennai, epdi irukeenga? (Hello Chennai, how are you?),” Uthappa said.
“First of all, I’d like to say thanks to all the CSK fans for the wonderful welcome I’ve received over the last few weeks. This message is a bit long pending, but I’m glad that ‘late aanaalum latest ah pannirken’ (I’m latest even if I’m late – a reference to a popular Tamil movie dialogue).”
“Thanks so much for all the love and support I’ve received so far,” he added.
It’s a bit of a desire come true for me: Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa, who was the leading run-scorer in KKR’s 2014 title-winning campaign, says that it was his wish to play under MS Dhoni once again and win a tournament alongside the former India skipper.
Robin Uthappa was a crucial part of Team India which won the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa under Dhoni. However, his appearances in the national team post the World Cup were few and far between. The 35-year-old promises to provide entertainment with the bat for CSK fans.
“Honestly, it’s bit of a desire come true for me. It’s been almost 12-13 years since I played with MS Dhoni. I had a desire to play with him again and win a tournament once before he retires. So it’s a blessing to get an opportunity to play for CSK.
“Not just that, I get to play with a lot of players I grew up with. Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina… I’ve been playing with them since Under-17. So I’m very very happy that I’m a part of CSK. I’ll work hard and play well if I get an opportunity. And I’m looking forward to coming there and entertaining all of you. I don’t know how to whistle, but I’ll make you all whistle!” the former KKR opener further added.
