Hardik Pandya is heavily rumored to leave the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2027 season. It will be interesting to see where he will land next. There are some names already floating across social media platforms linked with the star pace-bowling all-rounder, including the Delhi Capitals (DC).

DC has another underwhelming campaign in the ongoing IPL 2026 season under the leadership of Axar Patel. Apart from the captaincy role, there are several other variable which makes Pandya’s possible move to the Delhi-based franchise sensible.

Why Delhi Capitals should acquire the service of Hardik Pandya?

1. A charged-up dressing room

Success comes from the preparations, and the dressing atmosphere is also a part of the preparations. DC’s squad for the 2026 season was full of talent, but their body language on the ground was not enough to justify that. Whenever the team came under pressure, they failed to produce their best. At his peak, Hardik Pandya is a different gravy. A motivated player on the field can channel their emotions through their performance in a good way.

2. Hardik in place of Axar will be an instant option

Axar Patel is one of the most spin-bowling all-rounders in the limited-overs format. But somehow, he did not come forward when the team needed him the most. He not only doubted his own abilities but also underused proven talents like Kuldeep Yadav.

Axar Patel is amongst the players who can stay with their composure, while Hardik Pandya is known for his aggressive approach. Teams often like to go with a hot and cold composition in the line-up to balance things. The combination of Axar and Hardik can be the same. If the team management thinks of replacing Axar from the leadership role, then Hardik will be there as an instant replacement.

3. A fierce batting order

In the middle order of the Delhi Capitals, there were Axar Patel, David Miller, Ashutosh Sharma, Sameer Rizvi, and Tristam Stubbs. Patel is not known for hitting big shots. Ashutosh Sharma, Sameeer Rizvi, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs can do carnage on their days.

Despite their true potential, the main issue with the team was consistency and experience. Patel is experienced, but someone who could change the color of a match with the batting. Stubbs, Sharma, and Rizvi are explosive batters, but they lack consistency and experience as well.

Hardik Pandya’s experience and ability to take the ball into the stands will come as the missing link for the team. Last season, when David Miller played a few knocks under pressure, the other end of the wicket looked fragile. Hardik, with all of his expertise, can play in a lot more sensible way till the end.

4. A leader with the ball

The inclusion of Auqib Nabi brought fresh air into the team, but not the effectiveness. Lungi Ngidi and, later, Mitchell Starc were the main bowlers for DC. Star and Ngidi both did some promising spells, but mostly proved expensive. Additionally, they are injury-prone.

Hardik Pandya will bring variety to the seam bowling. He has experience with the new ball and the old ball. In the death overs, Pandya’s slower cutters and length balls can help the team to snatch victories from tight positions.
