The ICC Test Rankings had a change on Wednesday afternoon, as the England National Cricket Team vice-captain Harry Brook became the No.1 Test batter. He surpassed the Australia National Cricket Team opener Travis Head, who was at the top previously. The change in the rankings is made right ahead of the England vs Pakistan game, which is scheduled to start on August 19.
Travis Head was at the top; however, his poor performance in the first Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team made him drop three positions, as he is currently at No.4. He scored 22 and 17, which saw some poor batting form in the traditional format as Australia lost to Bangladesh by 9 wickets.
Harry Brook reclaims No. 1 Test batter spot, Travis Head drops
Harry Brook climbs up one spot as he was previously in the second position. The English vice-captain will be looking to perform in the upcoming first Test against the Men in Green. If Harry Brook fails to perform again, someone from his team, Joe Root or the former Australia captain Steve Smith, might climb up if they perform well.
This is the fourth time Harry Brook has achieved the No.1 spot, as he first became the No.1 Test batter in December 2024. Harry Brook is currently 12 points ahead of his England Test captain Joe Root, as the vice-captain is 852 points and the latter is sitting in 2nd position with 840 points.
Steve Smith enters top 3; Najmul Hossain Shanto rises
Steve Smith moved to the third position as he was the best batter for Australia in the Bangladesh Test match. He scored 71 and 44 in both innings, as he is on 833 points in the third position. Najmul Hossain Shanto has reached a career-best 20th position, a knock of 84 in his only innings lifting him nine places.
The Bangladesh captain overpowered all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and his own teammate Liton Das. Najmul’s tally of 659 rating points is the sixth highest for a batter from the country. Cameron Green, who was the lone player to score a century for the Aussies, moved five places to 30th
Bangladesh middle-order batter Mominul Haque (up five places to 31st), Shadman Islam (up three places to 58th), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (up five places to 59th) and Tanzid Hasan (up 84 places to joint-88th) are the other batters from the Bangladesh team who had a change in the batting rankings.
Rishabh Pant makes a rise in ICC rankings
Rishabh Pant had a rise of one place after his amazing 39 and 66-run innings in the recently concluded Test match against Sri Lanka. He was excellent in the second innings for the side and thus was rewarded, as he has risen one place to 13th with 705 points. This is a big boost for the batter.
Apart from him, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal did not have any changes to their position as they remain 7th and 9th in the rankings, respectively. The Team India skipper failed to have any impact as he scored 16 and 8 in both innings. Jaiswal scored 32 and 0 against the same opposition.
