Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has claimed that Virat Kohli has actually timed the ball really well in ICC T20 WC 2024 despite not scoring big.

Harbhajan Singh said this on the eve of the match against the Australian team. This match is expected to attract millions of viewers as two of the world's best cricket teams are coming up against each other. Last year they had dominated ICC tournaments by appearing in the finals of the World Test Championship and Cricket World Cup.

This year, they are going to meet before the final itself but the stakes are as high. A win would see India enter the semis whereas Australia will have to hope for Bangladesh to beat Afghanistan in tomorrow's Super 8 match. On the other hand, if the Aussies win today, then the scenario will get difficult for team India in case the Afghans also win against the Bangla Tigers.

All in all, we are set for an evenly contested game at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia which promises to be a belter. There will be plenty of eyes on some individual match-ups as well. From Virat Kohli Vs Pat Cummins to Rohit Sharma Vs Mitchell Starc and Travis Head Vs Jasprit Bumrah to David Warner Vs Arshdeep Singh, some mouth-watering clashes are on the cards.

A lot of attention will be on Virat Kohli as well. The right-hand batter hasn't been able to fully express himself in the tournament and it will be interesting to see if his bats do the talking against Australia. The two-time highest scorer of T20 World Cups has scored just 66 runs with a highest of 37 against Bangladesh in their previous Super 8 match.

Virat Kohli also has a lot of criticism to respond to about his run-scoring ability in tougher conditions. The IPL 2024 Orange Cap winner needs to fire from the top order if the Indian side wants to lift the T20 WC for the first time since 2007. In the context of him scoring runs, inaugural T20 WC winner Harbhajan Singh spoke about Kohli.

Harbhajan Singh hoping for Virat Kohli to fire against Australia

While speaking to Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh expressed his hope to see Virat Kohli fire from the opening slot against Australia. The former off-spinner observed that Kohli has timed and middled the ball nicely in this tournament but it's just that he hasn't scored as many runs.

But Harbhajan Singh is of the view that once Virat Kohli gets set in the middle, it will be tough to stop him.

"Ever since Virat has come to the Caribbean, the ball has been meeting the middle of his bat. While he hasn't got those big scores, what you should see in T20s is whether the 20s and 30s have made the impact. We know that once he is set, he can score big and hopefully, that will come against Australia," Harbhajan Singh told Star Sports.
