Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt believes that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma understand each other very well, and there is no known conflict between the two, despite what the media and fans say.

Rohit has taken over as the regular skipper for India in the T20I format after Kohli stepped down from the post citing workload issues. When asked on his YouTube can if split captaincy in white-ball formats could pose an issue.

Whenever there are two different individuals, it (conflict of opinion) is possible, but their domains are different. One is leading the T20 side and the other the ODI and Test teams,” Butt said.

They have played some very good cricket together, and I haven’t heard of any issues between the two. I think mostly they are in-line, and they understand each other.”

“Can’t deny the possibility of conflict, but chances are very low” – Salman Butt

Both Kohli and Rohit are experienced players, and they have served the national side as the captain and vice-captain for a number of years. This would have developed a similar thought process between the two, and a ‘rift’ should be very unlikely, as per Salman Butt.

They know their domain. So if they work within it, there shouldn’t be any problem. On many issues, their thinking is likely to be parallel because they have been captain and vice-captain. So the think tank is the same, and they must be taking decisions as a combined unit. You cannot deny the possibility of a conflict, but the chances are very low,” Butt added.

Having been appointed as the T20I captain, Rohit’s first assignment will be leading the side against New Zealand in the upcoming series at home.
