Former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan pointed out the problem that India has faced with finishers in the recent past. With two T20 World Cups on the trot, India would be keen to have a specialist candidate for the role. But Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has tipped all-rounder Hardik Pandya to emulate the likes of Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni in that department.

Hardik Pandya is arguably one of the cleanest strikers of the ball. The 27-year old’s transition to the international arena happened through the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians. Pandya made his debut in 2016 and while a series of injuries have impeded him several opportunities, he has showcased his skill whenever played. Hence, he would be crucial to India’s chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan underlined that India has struggled to find a good finisher after MS Dhoni, but believes that Hardik Pandya can be extremely dangerous in that department. The 55-year old reckons fitness would be key to Hardik’s success as bowling would give him more confidence.

“That has been the problem for India… Finishers after MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. We are still looking to find a good finisher after Dhoni. Hardik Pandya can be an extremely dangerous finisher. It is important for him to regain full fitness and then when he starts to bowl, he will gain more confidence,” Sivaramakrishnan told Hindustan Times.

Laxman Sivaramakrishnan further stated that Hardik Pandya is a multi-faceted cricketer and would become better with more significant contributions. The cricketer-turned-commentator feels the Baroda all-rounder holds the key to India’s success in limited-overs cricket; however, he needs to showcase his full potential.

Hardik can contribute to all three departments of the game. Every time he contributes, he will become a better cricketer both technically and mentally. The key for India’s success in white-ball cricket will be the fitness of Hardik Pandya and if he can play to his potential then it will be awesome,” he added.
