Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt talked about Tim Paine’s recent controversy and said that the former Australia captain is not an outstanding batsman or a captain, but he is human at the end of the day, and people should not be very harsh on him.
Just half a month before the marquee Ashes 2021-2022, Tim Paine stepped down from Australia’s Test captaincy after his involvement in a sexting scandal became public. Notably, back in 2017, he sent messages of a sexual nature to a female co-worker and was investigated by Cricket Australia and Cricket Tasmania.

Meanwhile, Salman Butt was asked to share his opinions on the ongoing Paine and Australia controversy, to which he said that several players have gone through this stage of life, and even he was involved in a spot-fixing scandal. He knows what players go through in this situation.
“Many people may have gone through this stage in life. I have been through something as well. People should not build their argument around someone’s misery and take high moral ground. Humans should not do this, according to me. He made a mistake, he has apologized and stepped down. Let’s move on.
“I am not a great fan of him as a cricketer or his attitude. He is not an outstanding batter or captain but he is human at the end of the day,” Speaking on his YouTube channel, Butt said.
Cricket Australia Chairman Richard Freudenstein Says Allowing Tim Paine To Continue As A Captain Was A Mistake
Speaking to reporters, the Current chairman of Cricket Australia (CA) Richard Freudenstein said it was a mistake to allow Paine to captain the side after his involvement in the sexting scandal in 2017.
“I can’t talk about the 2018 decision, I wasn’t there. But I am saying, based on the facts as they are, today the board of Cricket Australia would not have made that decision.
“I acknowledge the decision clearly sent the wrong message that this behaviour is acceptable and without serious consequences. The role of Australian cricket captain must be held to the highest standards,” Butt added.
