Former Zimbabwe captain and all-rounder Heath Streak is alive, despite the unfounded rumors that have circulated regarding his demise. Earlier, news reports suggested that Heath Streak had passed away after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 22.

Heath Streak made his international debut for Zimbabwe in 1993. The bowling all-rounder was named captain of the national cricket team in 2000, leading them until he was sacked by the board in 2004. He last played for Zimbabwe in a Test match against India in 2005.

According to Zimbabwe’s former minister of education, sport, and culture, David Coltart, the fast bowler was reportedly in critical condition in South Africa in May.

Heath Streak Is Very Much Alive – Henry Olanga

Former Zimbabwe fast bowler Henry Olonga took to his official social media handle to confirm that Heath Streak is still alive.

“I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks,” tweeted Olonga.

Heath Streak and Henry Olonga were part of Zimbabwe’s victories against India and South Africa during the 1999 World Cup. Their triumphs against formidable teams left a significant mark in the history of Zimbabwean cricket.

Heath Streak’s Impressive Stats For Zimbabwe

Streak represented the national team in 65 Tests and 189 ODIs during his illustrious 13-year international career. He also captained the team in 89 matches across all formats of the game. He was the leading wicket-taker for his country in both Test matches and ODI cricket.

The right-arm pacer picked up 216 wickets and 239 wickets in Tests and ODIs, respectively. He scored close to 400 runs in international cricket. He smashed a century in red-ball cricket against the West Indies. He led the team to victory against India in Tests at home in 2001.
