Shreyas Iyer joins an elite list of players as an Indian captain. Since taking over the captaincy job for the India National Cricket Team in the T20Is, he has won all of the tosses in five games.
Tonight, he won the toss again against England and claimed a rare record. With tonight’s toss, Shreyas Iyer has won five tosses in a row, which is a record.
Shreyas Iyer creates record as Team India captain.
MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, three former India captains, are ahead of Iyer in the list. After winning the toss, Iyer elected to bowl first for the third of the ongoing 5-match T20I series at Trent Bridge.
Most consecutive tosses won by an India captain (T20Is)
7 - MS Dhoni (May 2010 - Feb 2012)
6 - Virat Kohli (Aug 2019 - Dec 2019)
5 - Rohit Sharma (Feb 2020 - Feb 2022)
5 - MS Dhoni (September 2007)
5* - Shreyas Iyer (June 2026 - July 2026)
As it was predicted earlier, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi retains his spot in the playing combination after making his debut for the Indian cricket team in the previous match in Manchester. There is one change in the Indian playing line-up, while England sticks to their previous playing combination with no change.
Ravi Bishnoi, who leaked 29 runs in the 17th over in the previous match, which is believed to have taken the momentum away from India, has been dropped from tonight's playing XI. In place of Bishnoi, who is a spinner, Prince Yadav, a pacer, has been included in the combination to face the Three Lions at Trent Bridge.
Prince Yadav was impressive on his debut match. In his debut T20I match for India in Belfast, the fast bowler took 3 wickets. Under the English conditions, he is expected to be effective with his pace.
A high-scoring match is expected at Trent Bridge tonight
This could be a high-scoring match as the boundaries are relatively short in comparison to the other grounds in England. In the past, the ground has hosted multiple high-scoring T20Is as well, where the batting second team had the advantage over the batting first teams on most occasions.
According to Cricbuzz, 11 of the last 15 T20s here since 2025 have been won by the chasing side, with the average first innings winning total standing at 191.
"Certainly, by the looks of it, I feel it’s a beautiful wicket. And definitely, one side is short, so we want to maximize the use of it and see how they bat," Shreyas Iyer said at the toss.
Currently, England is leading the 5-match T20I series by 1-0, and will look to double down the lead over the visitors.
