IND vs NZ 2021: Henry Nicholls Survives After LED Bails Don't Fall Even After Ball Hits The Stumps

New Zealand’s middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls might just have used up a lot of his luck in the second innings of the second Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling the 32nd over when the fifth ball seemed to have just whizzed past the off-stump. It was the third time in a row that Ashwin had beaten Nicholls in the over. The initial reaction suggested that the ball had missed the stumps by a whisker.

However, replays showed that the ball had kissed the off-stump but the LED bails being used didn’t come off. This isn’t the first instance of the stumps not falling off as the LED bails have been confirmed to be a little heavier than the normal bails.

In the early stages, the Kiwi left-hander survived an LBW shout from Umesh Yadav. The bowler didn’t seem too interested as he sensed an inside edge. But once again, the Ultra-Edge confirmed that there was no bat involved and the ball tracker suggested the ball was crashing into the leg stump.

Soon after, Nicholls had another lucky escape, this time off Jayant Yadav’s bowling. The left-hander danced down the track but was beaten by the turn. However, the steep bounce had Wriddhiman Saha fumble the ball and he survived. Although it wouldn’t have mattered since Jayant had overstepped while delivering.
