Herschelle Gibbs Reacts After Kieron Pollard Joins 'Six Sixes In An Over' Club In International Cricket

Former South Africa opener, Herschelle Gibbs was elated to welcome West Indies captain Kieron Pollard into an absolute elite club – which now comprises only three batsmen. On Wednesday night, at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, Kieron Pollard became only the third batsman, after Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh to have hit 6 sixes in an over in international cricket.
The brawny Trinidadian achieved this feat against Sri Lankan mystery spinner, Akila Dananjaya during the West Indies’ successful run-chase in the first T20I of the 3-match series. With the help of Pollard’s 38 off 11 balls, the hosts sized down the chase, which once looked in a precarious position after Dananjaya hat-trick.
It was Herschelle Gibbs, in the 2007 ICC ODI World Cup against the Netherlands, who was the first player to do so at the international stage when he smashed leg-spinner Daan van Bunge for 6 times over the rope.
Just a few months later, India’s superstar batsman, Yuvraj Singh paralleled Gibbs’ act harrumphing England’s Stuart Broad for half-a-dozen sixes in an over in Durban during a group game at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup. And now, after 14 years, Kieron Pollard is the third member on that list.

While Gibbs welcomed Pollard to this rare club, he also didn’t miss to point out that all the players have batted for Mumbai Indians in the IPL!
The South African played for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons and won the title in 2009; he hit a match-winning fifty in the final. Gibbs played for Mumbai Indians in the 2012 season – he played 3 matches scoring 81 runs at a strike rate of 92.05 – which was eventually his last IPL stint.
Yuvraj Singh was with the Rohit Sharma-led outfit in IPL 2019; he batted in 4 games and scored 98 runs at a strike rate of 130.67 – it turned out to his last season as well but the southpaw ended with his second IPL title.
Kieron Pollard has been with Mumbai Indians for all his IPL career, dating back to 2010 – he is one of the few players to win all 5 trophies with the franchise. The 33-year-old has amassed over 3000 runs in the IPL at a strike rate of 149.88. He has also captained the franchise when Rohit Sharma is injured.
“1.2.3 @mumbaiindians representing first 3 to hit 6x6s in international cricket. Welcome @kieron.pollard55 Fisted hand #6×6 #goinggoinggone.#yuvrajsingh #kieronpollard #mumbaiindians,” Herschelle Gibbs tweeted.
