The fourth and final Test between India and England began in Ahmedabad from Thursday as the hosts had one eye in the ICC World Test Championship final. While the first hour saw England losing three wickets, it also witnessed a verbal altercation between Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes. Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes looked to engage in a war of words that might have emerged due to Stokes’ likely spat with Mohammed Siraj.

The over where Mohammed Siraj dismissed England captain Joe Root cheaply, he ended the same with a bouncer to Ben Stokes. And post that, Stokes remarked something at the Indian fast bowler that seemed not to go down well with Virat Kohli. In between overs, Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes involved in a verbal war with Jonny Bairstow beside the latter. Umpire Nitin Menon had to come in and separate the two.

Ben Stokes seems to have started the ongoing Test well enough after a string of low scores following his whirlwind knock of 82 in the first innings of the opening Test. The southpaw is currently on 17 off 23 deliveries, hitting three boundaries in the process. With Stokes’ going through a slight rough patch, the altercation with the Indian captain could ignite the fire within him to craft an invaluable knock.

England lost three wickets cheaply after electing to bat first in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad. Zak Crawley, Dan Lawrence, and Joe Root perished without reaching double figures, with Axar Patel accounting for the first two batsmen, followed by Siraj removing the visiting skipper. Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow have counterattacked reasonably well.
