Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik recently jumped into Virat Kohli's defense when he was asked about the modern-day batter's failure in the first Test against Bangladesh.
Kohli made his return to Test cricket in Chennai against Bangladesh after missing the five-match home Test series against England earlier in the year due to the birth of his second child.
Virat Kohli's return wasn't a good one as he failed to score big runs with the bat. The right-handed batter scored just 6 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud in the first innings.
In the second innings, he looked better but was not able to play a big knock as Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped him LBW. Virat Kohli got out after scoring 17 runs off 37 balls.
Before the first Test against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli played the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka where he looked miserable against spinners and registered scores of 24, 14, and 20. His recent dip in form has left many concerned, especially with the big season coming up. However, Dinesh Karthik is not one of them.
In a video shared on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik was asked by a fan if the recent performances of Kohli were an 'eye-opener for him to work on a few things?'
The former wicketkeeper-batsman shut down the fan with an epic response, saying that Kohli is a champion batter and will bounce back soon. He stated:
"Why? Two innings, he has gotten out, sir? Two innings? It's Virat Kohli, he is completely okay. One Test doesn't change anything about his life. He is a champion. Big matches, who do you want? Virat Kohli! He is the king."
Dinesh Karthik Drops His Prediction For India Playing XI For Kanpur Test
Dinesh Karthik, in the same video, was asked about his prediction for the India playing XI for the second Test in Kanpur. Karthik responded by saying that India will have to make a choice between Akash Deep and Kuldeep Yadav looking at the conditions on offer. He said:
"I have to go to Kanpur to see the pitch to tell you what it will be. But, I have a feeling. It's just the one choice that they need to make. Is it going to be Akash Deep or Kuldeep? The pitch will decide that. When I get closer to Kanpur, I will put it up on Twitter for you guys."
While talking about the possibility of Ravichandran Ashwin playing overseas Tests after his heroics in the Chennai Test, Dinesh Karthik said that Ravindra Jadeja would always be given preference if only one spinner can play because he is a better batsman. He elaborated:
"There is no doubt about Ashwin playing overseas Tests. But what does happen is if there is an extremely green pitch where they have to play only one spinner.
"The fact that many right-handers could be in the opponent's 11. Add to the fact that Jadeja is at this point of time, the better batter as well. Tips in favor of Jadeja. That's what the situation is. But I have no doubt he will play a majority of all test matches. Till he plays no matter where in the world."
