England allrounder Chris Jordan has hailed Jos Buttler as the best player of his team after the latter's heroics against the USA in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
Both Chris Jordan and Jos Buttler starred with ball and bat respectively as England thrashed the USA by 10 wickets to become the first team to qualify for the semifinals. The reigning champions had their back against the wall after their loss against South Africa in the second Super 8 game. With West Indies winning big against USA, England needed to register a big win in their final Super 8 game to make it to the next round.
And the defending champions responded in style. Riding on Chris Jordan's sensational hat-trick, England bowled out USA for a modest total of 115 runs. They needed to chase down the total in 18.4 overs or fewer to book a place in the semifinals and did it in just 9.4 overs.
Jos Buttler went berserk, smashing an unbeaten 83 from just 38 balls to take his team home. In the ninth over, Buttler completed his fifty off 32 balls and hit five sixes in a row in the same over off Harmeet Singh before England crossed the finishing line in the 10th over.
Chris Jordan hails Jos Buttler:
Following Jos Buttler's whirlwind knock against the USA, Chris Jordan has lavished praise on him and has called him England's best player. The Barbados-born allrounder also said that England are lucky to have Buttler on their side before stating that the England captain's failure to score big before the USA game was not a concern for the team.
"He's our best player, that's for sure, and when he's in that mode, we definitely tend to follow it. That was just a Jos special today. You get to a point where you could think that it's just normal, but you actually have to take a step back and realise how special he is, and how lucky we are to have him on our side. So I'm definitely glad I'm not bowling at him.
"Definitely not [a concern that he hadn't scored big so far]. He's got so much on his plate anyway. The way Jos plays, his class will always shine through at some point. It's just inevitable, I feel, because he's that good a player and we have that much belief in him," he added.
Meanwhile, South Africa have joined England in the semifinals from Group 2. From Group 1, India, Australia, and Afghanistan are still in contention for a place in the last four.
