The Chennai Super Kings are sinking deeper into trouble in the ongoing IPL 2025, and after their fourth straight defeat in the tournament, former Indian chief selector Kris Srikkanth delivered a scathing reality check as he pointed fingers at their struggling bowling unit.
On Tuesday, April 8, Chennai Super Kings suffered another crushing defeat, and this time, Punjab Kings handed them an 18-run loss to the five-time champions in the 22nd match of the ongoing IPL 2025 game at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
Kris Srikkanth delivers brutal verdict on CSK's bowling woes in the IPL 2025
Chasing the 220 runs, Chennai Super Kings had a terrific start, but after Rachin Ravindra’s dismissal for 36 runs off 23 balls, Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad once again failed with the bat, dismissed for just 1 run against the Punjab Kings.
However, Shivam Dube (42) and MS Dhoni (27) tried their best, but Devon Conway’s sluggish knock of 69 runs off 49 balls couldn’t help them during their daunting chase.
After suffering their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing IPL 2025, Kris Srikkanth dropped a surprising statement on Chennai Super Kings’ current situation this season.
The former Indian cricketer believes that CSK’s chances of bouncing back depend entirely on their bowlers.
Srikkanth has pointed out that chasing scores above 180 looks like an uphill task for Chennai, given a misfiring batting order that still lacks clarity and rhythm in the tournament.
He feels that if Chennai Super Kings' bowlers keep leaking runs like they have been, things could get worse for them in the coming matches.
It all rests on their bowling: Kris Srikkanth on Chennai Super Kings' playoff hopes
The former Indian chief selector also urged the Chennai Super Kings' team management to act fast. He also suggested that if the five-time IPL champions want to stay alive in the playoff race, they must find a way to keep opponents under control with the ball to stage their comeback in the tournament.
Kris Srikkanth posted on X: “It's high time CSK does something with their bowling and restricts the opponents to less than 180 because the batting order is not set up for a score beyond that! If CSK has to make a comeback, then it all rests on their bowling and not their batting! #CSKvsPBKS”

Kris Srikkanth suggests CSK make three changes to make a strong comeback
Srikkanth also feels CSK can make three changes to their playing XI in the upcoming games to get their IPL 2025 campaign back on track. He feels it’s time to bring in Jamie Overton in place of Rachin Ravindra.
Since Chennai bowlers have been leaking runs, they can utilize Jamie Overton’s raw pace, and then his power hitting can be really helpful for the franchise.

He also suggested that the skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, must return to his natural position at the top of the order, as he’s most dangerous when he opens, and CSK needs that early momentum in the tournament.
The last change Srikkanth feels the Chennai team should make is to drop Ravichandran Ashwin to add more firepower in the middle.
The cricket expert believes that CSK should replace Ravichandran Ashwin with a proper batter who can handle pressure and finish games for them in the tournament.
That might be what happens next game
