"His current fitness levels…": Sanjay Manjrekar's brutal statement on Rohit Sharma's Test retirement

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared his take on Rohit Sharma's retirement from Test cricket. He said that his poor numbers in the format since the last few series were one of the major reasons why his time as an opener in the longest format of the game was done.
Senior India National Cricket Team batter Rohit Sharma surprised many when, through a social media post, he announced his retirement from Test cricket. This came just ahead of the squad announcement of the Test series against the England National Cricket Team.

Rohit , who was captain of the India National Cricket Team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was expected to lead the team in the England series as well. The opening batter expressed his desire to play, but it seemed that the BCCI had decided to move away from him.
Rohit Sharma endured a tough phase in Test cricket. After a terrific series against England at home, the opening batter looked clueless in the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, followed by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.
Rohit Sharma averaged a dismal 10.93 in his previous 15 Test innings with a lone half-century. In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, he slammed just 31 runs and also dropped himself in the last game at Sydney, owing to the poor form, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the team.

With Rohit going through a rough phase and calling his retirement, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out his poor numbers. He also stressed the fitness of the opening batter, saying that his days as a Test cricketer were over. Taking to his Twitter account, he said:

Rohit ended his career with 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57 in 67 Test outings
Rohit ended his career with 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57 in 67 Test outings. He also slammed 12 tons in the format and captained India in 24 Tests after taking over from Virat Kohli in 2022. Under his leadership, the team won 12 games in the longest format of the game and also reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship in 2023.
Rohit will continue to play ODIs for the India National Cricket Team. Under his leadership, the team won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He played a magnificent knock in the final, slamming 76 runs to take his team to victory against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
He has been doing a great job as a leader in the white-ball format and would want to bring more glory to his team in the ODIs going ahead.
