Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun has offered words of encouragement for chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav after the Uttar Pradesh bowler was overlooked from the entirety of the Test series against Australia.

Once hailed as India’s first-choice overseas spinner by head coach Ravi Shastri, Kuldeep Yadav did not get a single opportunity in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite the fact that both the frontline spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were unavailable for the series-decider in Brisbane.

India preferred to go with the all-round option in Washington Sundar and the move paid dividends substantially as the Tamil Nadu off-spinner not only claimed four crucial wickets across two innings, he also chipped in with valuable contributions with the bat.

In a recent interview, Bharat Arun was asked about Kuldeep Yadav, and the bowling coach responded by saying that the left-arm leg-spinner has been bowling brilliant and his time to shine will come in the forthcoming Test series against England in home conditions.

”Horses for courses is the best thing and when he gets a chance to play, he will show what he can do because he is bowling magnificently now and in India when we play these four Tests (against England) it will be his time,” Bharat Arun said.

Arun also talked about the importance of having a pool of fast bowlers given the grueling international schedule that India has this year.

India’s bench strength was tested to the hilt, especially in the fast bowling department, during the Australian series and the most heartening thing was that each of those who got an opportunity made full use of it.

With India set to play as many as nine Tests against England, two against New Zealand at home and three in South Africa at the end of the year, Bharat Arun said that the fast bowlers will be rotated time and again.

“If you want India to be doing well sustainably, you need a pool of bowlers who will be rotated time and again so that they stay fresh. Now we are blessed with a great bench strength,” said Bharat Arun.

“This tour has taken a lot out of the boys, but now in the future when you have seven fast bowlers raring to play for the country. With the number of Tests we are going to play — four against England here and five in England –, it will be very handy. They will all be rotated and we will make sure the best team is put forward,” he added.
