Young Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain was making waves in recent times with his effortless ability to bowl fast despite being only 21-years old. Hasnain made his Pakistan debut in 2019 and has played 8 ODIs and 18 T20Is as well, picking 12 and 17 wickets respectively.

However, his career, which was in full upswing, has been brought to a screeching halt as he was reported for faulty bowling action during his first stint in the Big Bash League (BBL 11) season, where he was playing for the Sydney Thunder franchise and had picked three wickets in his debut match.

The 21-year-old, who once bowled a 155kph delivery in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), was reported by the umpires, as confirmed by Cricket Australia, and was sent back to Pakistan to undergo a test on his action at the ICC-accredited testing facility in Lahore.

However, the results from the ICC-accredited biomechanics laboratory at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) brought his career to a halt as ESPNCricinfo reported that ten out of the 11 deliveries that he bowled in the lab clocked extension ranging from 17 to 24 degrees.

With the majority of his deliveries exceeding the 15-degree tolerance limit for a legal bowling action, Mohammad Hasnain was banned from bowling in international cricket and the PCB said that they will appoint a bowling consultant who will work with him so that he can rectify his bowling action and be ready for a reassessment.

Mohammad Hasnain expressed himself for the first time after his bowling action was found illegal by Cricket Australia (CA). His bowling action was found illegal by the CA’s independent expert and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disallowed Hasnain to further participate in season seven of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Hasnain, in a video released by his franchise Quetta Gladiators, said that he never thought that his arm is exceeding the 15-degree limits.

“I didn’t expect this. When I received a call for the first time over, I had no idea how to react as I was watching my videos to analyze whether this thing is happening or not. I returned to Pakistan and gave my bowling action test, in the middle of PSL I was banned from bowling. This time is quite difficult for me.

I was tying my laces and someone told Sarfaraz Ahmed that Hasnain can’t play. I felt sad as I could have played one more match and made my team win. I am leaving my team in the middle of PSL but I will soon come back by correcting my weaknesses. You will see a different Hasnain soon,” Hasnain said.

According to the ICC’s regulations on illegal bowling actions, the PCB can allow him to continue bowling in their domestic tournaments. But they have decided against it.
