Out-of-favour India batsman Hanuma Vihari has expressed his disappointment over being constantly overlooked by the selectors. Not very long ago, the right-handed batsman was a key member of the Indian team.

After scoring heavily in domestic cricket, Hanuma Vihari earned his maiden call-up for the Test side during the tour of England in 2018. He made an instant impact by scoring a fifty on his debut. In no time, he became a key member of the side. Time and again, Vihari was asked to sacrifice his spot for the sake of the team and he did.

From opening the innings in Melbourne to playing with a torn hamstring in Sydney, Vihari never hesitated in making sacrifices for the team. However, his Test career has not panned out as he would have liked. As of now, he is nowhere close to making a return to the Test side and it would not be surprising if he does not earn a recall from the selectors anytime soon.

Disappointed Hanuma Vihari on being not part of the Test side:

Hanuma Vihari has not played a Test for India since July 2022. Since then, he has been constantly overlooked by the national selection panel. In a recent interview, the Andhra batsman opened up on being dropped from the Test side as he expressed his disappointment over the same. The middle-order batsman stated that he still does not know the reason behind being dropped.

“Definitely, there was disappointment,” Vihari told The Indian Express.

“I didn’t find a reason why I was dropped and it was the only thing that was bothering me. Nobody really contacted me and told me the reasons why I was dropped. It took some time and I have gone through ups and downs and I’m not worried about it now.

“I’ve put aside my personal side of things and I don’t take too much stress about whether I’m in the Indian team or not. There are other matches to win and it is about winning the trophies,” he added.

The selectors recently made a few changes to India’s Test squad. Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was dropped from the team for the upcoming series against West Indies while uncapped duo Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad earned maiden call-ups. With Pujara out, Shubman Gill will be batting at three while Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal will be opening the innings.
