Ahead of the upcoming Test series against England, Kuldeep Yadav has said he is looking forward to learning from veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. India will host England for four Tests, five T20Is and three ODIs. The Test series gets underway on February 5 in Chennai. The first two Tests will be held in Chennai while the next two will be played in Ahmedabad.

Kuldeep Yadav will be hoping that he finally gets a chance in the playing eleven of the Test team after being benched for the entire series in Australia. The left-arm spinner has not played a Test since the Sydney Test at the start of 2019. With Ravindra Jadeja injured, he is likely to get a chance against England.

The other spinners in the team are Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. But given that India will have a strong batting unit in the upcoming series, they might play two specialist spinners in the form of Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav. Speaking on the fierce competition in the squad, Kuldeep Yadav explained that there is no rivalry among the spinners.

“There is no competition as such (between the spinners). I get to learn a lot from Ash bhai. His presence will be of a huge boost, and when the Test series begins, we can make some small tactical changes depending on the situation,” Kuldeep Yadav told The Hindu.

Kuldeep Yadav further stressed that India won’t get carried away with their great record at home and would not take England lightly. India have not lost a Test series at home since 2012 and have lost just one Test during this period. Incidentally, their last series defeat at home came against England who have arrived in India after a superb 2-0 win in Sri Lanka.

“England played good cricket against Sri Lanka and the team is in good form. They have handled the spinners well in Sri Lanka. But at the same time, there will be a slight difference between the SG balls and the Kookaburra balls, so players will gave to adjust a bit. Whenever England comes for Tests, they are well-prepared,” Kuldeep Yadav said.
