Ravindra Jadeja missed out on a well-deserved century by 14 runs in the ongoing first India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

India were in deep trouble on day one of the Test after being reduced to 144/6. Even the 200-run mark was looking like a distant dream for the hosts at that stage. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin played brilliant knocks to bail India out of trouble. Thanks to their knocks, India went on to post a competitive total of 376 runs in the first innings.

Ashwin completed a stunning century on the first day itself. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 86. While the Indian cricketing fraternity was eagerly waiting for the allrounder to complete his century on the second day, he failed to do so. In fact, Ravindra Jadeja could not score any runs on the second day and was out on his overnight score of 86.

And while the 35-year-old missed out on a well-deserved century, he did not sound too disappointed. Speaking at the end of the second day's play, Jadeja called his dismissal 'part and parcel of the game'. He also made it clear that his focus is completely on helping the team win the Test.

"I got out today but it's part and parcel of the game. Now we have to put up a good score on the board in the second innings. I am very happy with my bowling, the way I went through today. It's a good opportunity to take the 300th wicket on this ground," said Jadeja who picked up two wickets on day two to take his Test wickets tally to 296.

"First we have to bat very well, we have to put somewhere around 120-150 from hereon. We'll be in a good position and then we'll come out and bowl and try and get them out as early as possible," he added.

Ravindra Jadeja on partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravindra Jadeja also opened up about his 199-run partnership with Ashwin. The allrounder stated that he did not need to give any advice to Ashwin and praised his partner for his batting.

"First of all, Ashwin doesn't need any advice. I was just talking to Ash that we are not gonna miscall or try and make errors because the wicket was so good and we both were batting very well," said Jadeja.

"I said we'll look to take easy singles, I'll try and not make you run hard and that was the conversation between us. Well played to Ashwin, he played a brilliant knock at his home ground," he added.

Meanwhile, India bowled out Bangladesh for just 149 runs. The hosts then went on to end the second day on 81 for 3 to take their overall lead to 308 runs.
