England will host a five-Test Ashes series in the English summer, with the first Test scheduled to begin on June 16. Middle-order batsman Jonny Bairstow believes his recovery from injury is on the “right track”. The right-handed batter will be hoping to return to the national Test squad for the Ashes series.
Jonny Bairstow slipped on the golf course, breaking his leg and dislocating his ankle last September. The 33-year-old was ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and the Test series against Pakistan. Bairstow was in excellent form last year, scoring 1061 runs with an average of 66.31 and including six Test centuries before being sidelined by injury.

We’re On The Right Track – Jonny Bairstow
Bairstow stated that he is still optimistic about returning for the Ashes but has not set a return date. He said that staying at home has been boring, and the long break hasn’t really affected his mentality.
“It (the leg) is improving, we’re on the right track, we’re about four-and-a-half months post it (the injury) happening now. I haven’t actually got a return date just yet but I’m seeing a surgeon later on in the month, so we’ll wait and see how that goes, but things are tracking in the right direction,” Bairstow said at the Marylebone Cricket Club ‘spirit of cricket’ panel on Wednesday, according to the Yorkshire Post.
“It’s (injury) a bit more complicated than just breaking your leg, but that’s just one of the things that you deal with. Everyone has been dealt a card, and everyone has challenges put in front of them, but it’s just another thing you can overcome. It’s been a lot different (post the injury), taking the injury away from it, not being … on planes and flying everywhere and being around a group of lads, being at home has been a lot different,” he added.
