"I Said To Coach & Captain To Drop Me"-Pakistan Wicket-Keeper Batter Mohammad Rizwan Reveals His Exclusion From New Zealand Test Series

Pakistan Cricket Team is going through a bit of turmoil at the moment. The Men in Green had a bumper home season where England & New Zealand toured them. Pakistan had a forgettable Test series against England where they were outplayed in all the 3 departments of the game and looked quite clueless.

PCB left out Mohammad Rizwan from the New Zealand Test series under the new regime of Najam Sethi. The selection panel named the veteran wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed who had a terrific Test Series where he played defining knocks for the team and made a statement that he is not done yet.

Mohammad Rizwan on New Zealand Test Series

Mohammad Rizwan was having an interaction with Cricket Pakistan and was asked about his omission from Test Series.

“You can ask the head coach Saqlain Mushtaq what I told him after the end of the England Test series. I was happy to see Sarfaraz perform because that is what I wanted. Sarfaraz has been performing in domestic and deserves his chance now. I asked for his inclusion. Whoever performs best for Pakistan deserves to play.” said Mohammad Rizwan.

“Some players said that every player goes through this phase and you can’t sit on the bench based on few failures. But I went to the coach and captain myself and told them that you can drop me because I haven’t performed. Two players are witnesses to this conversation.” he added.

Steep Road Ahead for Pakistan

PSL 2023 is set to resume on 13th February where all eyes would be on Babar Azam who had a forgettable T20 WC 2022. There have been talks going on that captaincy would be snatched away from Babar Azam. PSL is considered to a be the most entertaining league after IPL.

Shaheen Afridi would make a return to competitive cricket where the speedster had injured his knee during the final of T20 WC 2022. PCB must apply rotation policy as there’s a lot of cricket being scheduled. It would be interesting to see how the league pans out under the chairmanship of Najam Sethi.
