India’s latest Test debutant Washington Sundar has expressed his gratitude to the team-management for holding him back as a net bowler following the culmination of the white-ball Internationals as he feels that staying in the set-up has helped him improve his skill-level in both batting as well as bowling.
Washington Sundar became the 301st cricketer to represent India in Test match cricket following an unprecedented call after ace-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was ruled out of the series-decider due to severe back spasms.
The right-handed off-spinner, who hasn’t featured in a First-Class game since 2017, made an immediate impact as he got the better of Australian legend Steve Smith with the leg-stump ploy.
“I thank the team management for keeping me through the Test series. I felt it would really help me get better with my skill level — both in my batting and my bowling with the kind of facilities you get here.” Washington Sundar told reporters after the end of first day’s play.
‘I think I should dedicate this to my family’- Washington Sundar
“The last 24 hours have been amazing for me. The team management asked me to be ready to play. I think I should dedicate this to my family as they sacrificed a lot,” he said.
“Without their support, it would have been impossible for me to play Test cricket, especially make debut in a place like Australia,” he added.
