Mohammed Azharuddeen became one of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s recruits as the franchise went for him in IPL 2021 auction at INR 20 lakhs. Mohammed Azharuddeen will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with the likes of Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Daniel Sams, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Maxwell, Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Mohammed Siraj. But the youngster is most excited about teaming up with Kohli and learn the art of consistency from him.
Mohammed Azharuddeen grabbed the spotlight in this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as he played outstandingly well for Kerala. The 27-year old featured in five matches, managing 214 runs at 53.50 alongside an impressive strike rate of 194.54. Azharuddeen also slammed an unbeaten 137 in the tournament while opening the innings in 54 balls with nine fours and 11 sixes. Thus, Bangalore could very well utilise his big-hitting skills.
The first thing Mohammed Azharuddeen wants to ask Virat Kohli is how to be a consistent cricketer and to represent India, one has to be consistent. The 27-year old acknowledged that the Indian captain is the best batsman, captain, and someone who averages over 50 across formats. The keeper-batsman admitted that it is no mean feat and wants to become like Kohli.
“Consistency. How can I be a consistent cricketer? This is the first thing I want to ask him. Ultimately, we all want to represent India someday. For that, we have to be consistent performers. He is the best batsman in the world and the best captain as well. His average is above 50 in all the formats. That’s unbelievable. I want to ask Virat bhai how to be a consistent cricketer,” Azharuddeen told Times of India.
I am really looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the best batsmen in the world: Mohammed Azharuddeen
Apart from Kohli, the Kerala-born cricketer is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with AB De Villiers and Glenn Maxwell, seeing IPL 2021 as a massive learning process. Azharuddeen also said that facing Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini will make him a better batsman.
“It will be a huge learning process for me. I am really looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the best batsmen in the world – Virat bhai, ABD, and T20 specialist Glenn Maxwell. I really want to learn a lot from these legends. Siraj bhai and Saini bhai are two of the best bowlers India have right now. Facing them at the nets will make me a better batsman,” he added.
